Vona að mitt starf verði sá gluggi sem ætlast er til

Í byrjun mars hóf Klaudia Beata Wróbel, störf sem  fjömenningarfulltrúi hjá Vestmannaeyjabæ. Klaudia er 21 árs, fædd í Póllandi og kom til Íslands 2008. Talar mjög góða íslensku og útskrifaðist sem stúdent frá Farmhaldsskólanum í Vestmannaeyjum í desember sl. Var hún valin úr hópi fjögurra umsækjenda. Klaudia er komin með íslenskan ríkisborgararétt.

„Ég kom til landsins 11 ára gömul, beint inn í hrunið 2008. Pabbi hafði verið hér í þrjú ár en þarna komum við, ég, mamma mín og bróðir og fluttumst til Þorlákshafnar,“ segir Klaudia sem líkaði vel í Þorlákshöfn og ekki síst var hún ánægð með Grunnskólann sem tók vel á móti útlendingum.

Ánægð í Þorlákshöfn

„Það hjálpaði hvað ég var ung. Útlendu krakkarnir fengu aðstoð í nýbúaveri nema í ensku, stærðfræði og valáföngum. Þar vorum við með bekknum en svo í nýbúafræðslunni þar sem við vorum þjálfuð upp í íslensku, í orðaforða og beygingum sem geta verið erfiðar. Þegar við náðum tökum á íslenskunni fórum við yfir í bekki með hinum krökkunum. Þarna voru frábærir kennarar, konur sem hjálpuðu okkur mikið og fyrir það er ég þeim mjög þakklát.“

Í Grunnskólanum hér er eitt námsver þar sem nýbúar og krakkar með leserfiðleika geta sótt sér aðstoð. Telur Klaudia að nýbúaver reynist betur. „Ég er ekki að segja að þetta sé slæmt í skólanum hérna en það má alltaf gera betur. Og það skiptir svo miklu máli að útlendu krakkarnir nái sem fyrst tökum á íslenskunni.“

Til Vestmannaeyja

Klaudia kláraði grunnskólann í Þorlákshöfn. Tók eina önn í FSU á Selfossi þar sem hún rakst á vegg. „Þá tók ég ákvörðun um að taka mér frí frá skóla en þá var enga vinnu að hafa í Þorlákshöfn, Kom hingað 2013, byrjaði að vinna í Krónunni, seinna í Godthaab sem í dag er Leo Seafood. Þar vinn ég við þrif á vélum og búnaði auk þess að vinna sem fjölmenningarfulltrúi frá og með deginum í dag. Mér líkar vel í Vestmannaeyjum. Hér er svo fallegt og ég reyni eins og ég get að lokka hingað ættingja og vini til að sjá dýrðina. Hér eru líka góðir atvinnumöguleikar og á meðan held ég mig hér,“ segir Klaudia.

Verkefnin næg

Og hún sér fram á næg verkefni í nýju starfi því hér búa um 400 manns, milli níu og tíu prósent bæjarbúa sem eru af erlendu uppruna. Þar af er um helmingurinn Pólverjar. Og hún hefur reynslu af því að hjálpa löndum sínum. „Þegar það fréttist að ég talaði íslensku bað fólk mig um að þýða fyrir sig, hjálpar í samskiptum við lækna og ég  hef verið aðstoða í Grunnskólanum. Það koma tarnir í þessu en það er gaman að geta hjálpað fólki.

Það eru of margir Pólverjar hér sem ekki tala íslensku og það er mjög erfitt. Það geta verið ýmsar ástæður fyrir því. Við erum mörg hérna og höldum hópinn. Sumir koma hingað í styttri tíma til að ná sér í pening. Vinna mikið, allt að tólf tíma á dag, sakna fjölskyldunnar og þá ertu ekki reyna að læra nýtt tungumál. Aðrir koma hingað til að setjast að og reyna þá meira til að komast inn í samfélagið hér í Eyjum og að því ætla ég að vinna.“

Fjölbreyttur hópur

Auk Pólverja segir hún Portúgala og Rúmena fjölmenna í Eyjum. Í leikskólum eru nemendur úr hópi nýbúa, um 40 í Grunnskólanum en ekki nema fjórir til fimm í Framhaldsskólanum. „Þar er mikið brottfall. Það eru mikil viðbrigði að koma úr Grunnskólann upp í Framhaldsskóla þar sem lesblindir eru þeir einu sem fá einhverja aðstoð. Sjálf kláraði ég Framhaldsskólann og útskrifaðist í desember en það hjálpaði mér hvað ég var ung þegar ég flutti til landsins og hvað ég fékk mikla aðstoð frá kennurum í grunnskóla,“ sagði Klaudia sem vill breyta þessu.

Hún segir þá sem eru í kringum hana líta starf hennar jákvæðum augum og sjálf hlakkar hún til. „Flestir útlendingarnir sem hér búa eru ánægðir þó alltaf megi finna eitthvað. Ég vona að mitt starf sem fjölmenningarfulltrúi verði sá gluggi sem ætlast er til fyrir erlenda íbúa Vestmannaeyja inn í samfélagið hér. Sjálf er ég mjög spennt og hlakka til. Ég er með aðstöðu í Safnahúsinu og hvet fólk til að kíkja við eða hafa samband ef eitthvað er,“ sagði Klaudia, fjölmenningarfulltrúi Vestmannaeyjabæjar að lokum.

Hope my job will be the window you are looking for
This morning, Klaudia Beata Wróbel, started working as a multicultural representative for Vestmannaeyjar town. Klaudia is 21 years old, born in Poland and came to Iceland in 2008. She speaks excellent Icelandic and graduated from Framhaldsskólinn í Vestmannaeyjum, upper secondary school in the Westman Islands last December. She was selected from among four candidates. Klaudia also has Icelandic citizenship.

"I came to the country 11 years old, directly into the financial crisis 2008. My father had been here for three years and then we got there, me, my mom and brother and moved to Þorlákshöfn," says Klaudia, who liked it well in Þorlákshöfn and she was happy with the elementary school and how they welcomed foreigners.

Happy in Þorlákshöfn
"It helped that I was young. The foreign kids were assisted in most classes except in English, mathematics and chosen lessons. In those classes we were with the class, but in the multicultural class where we were trained in Icelandic, in vocabulary and inflection that can be difficult. When we got better with the Icelandic, we went over to the class with the other kids. There were great teachers, women who helped us a lot and for that I am very grateful."
In the elementary school there is a study program where foreign kids and kids with reading difficulties can apply for help. Klaudia thinks that foreign kids should have different type of assistance. "I'm not saying this is bad at school here but it can always do better. And it is so important that the foreign kids get better with the Icelandic language first."

To the Westman Islands
Klaudia completed the elementary school in Þorlákshöfn. Took one semester in FSU in Selfoss where she encountered a wall. "Then I made the decision to take a break from school, but then there was no work to find in Þorlákshöfn, I came here in 2013, started working at the Krónan grocery store, later in Godthaab which today is Leo Seafood. There I work cleaning the machines and equipment as well as working as a multicultural representative for Westman islands town. I like the Westman Islands. Here it is so beautiful and I try to lure relatives and friends here to see this beautiful island. Here are also good job opportunities and meanwhile, I‘ll stay here, ” says Klaudia.

Projects
And she sees enough work in a new job because there are about 400 foreigners living here, about nine or ten percent of the total population. Of these, half are Poles, and she has the experience of helping them. "When people heard I was speaking Icelandic, people asked me to translate for themselves, help in communicating with doctors and I have been assisting in the elementary school. It is a lot of work but it is fun to be able to help people.
There are too many Poles here who do not speak Icelandic and it is very difficult. There may be several reasons for this. We are many here and keep the group. Some come here for a shorter time to get some money. Work a lot, up to twelve hours a day, miss the family and then you're not trying to learn a new language. Others come here to settle down and try to integrate them more into the community here in the Islands and that's why I'm going to work on. "

Diverse group
In addition to the Poles, she says there are Portuguese and Romanians in the islands. In preschools, there are some foreign kids. Foreign students are about 40 in the primary school, but no more than four or five in the upper secondary school. "There is a lot of dropouts. There are major variations in assistance going from the elementary school up to the upper secondary school, where dyslexics are the only ones who receive some assistance. I finished my upper secondary school and graduated in December but it helped me that I was young when I moved to Iceland and the help I received from school teachers," said Klaudia, who wants to change this.

She says that those around her are very positive about the job. "Most of the foreigners living here are happy, although some issues can always be found. I hope that my job as a multicultural representative will be the gateway that is expected for foreign residents in the Westman Islands into the community here. I am very excited and looking forward to doing this. I have facilities in the Culture House and urge people to visit or contact me if there is anything," Klaudia, a multicultural representative from the Westman Islands, said in the end.

Mam nadzieję, że moja praca będzie oknem, którego szukasz
Dziś rano Klaudia Beata Wróbel rozpoczęła pracę jako wielokulturowy przedstawiciel miasta Vestmannaeyjar. Klaudia ma 21 lat, urodziła się w Polsce i przybyła na Islandię w 2008 roku. Mówi bardzo dobrze po islandzku i ukończyła szkołę średnią w Vestmannaeyjar, Framhaldsskólinn í Vestmannaeyjum w grudniu. Została wybrana spośród czterech kandydatów. Klaudia ma również obywatelstwo islandzkie.

"Przyjechałam do kraju w wieku 11 lat, bezpośrednio w kryzys finansowy w roku 2008. Mój ojciec był tutaj przez trzy lata, a potem dotarliśmy tam ja, moja mama i brat i osiedliśmy się w Þorlákshöfn" - mówi Klaudia, która lubi Þorlákshöfn i była zadowolona ze szkoły podstawowej oraz tego, jak powitali obcokrajowców.

Szczęśliwa w Þorlákshöfn
Zagraniczne dzieci były wspierane w większości klas, z wyjątkiem języka angielskiego, matematyki i wybranych lekcji, ponieważ w tych zajęciach byliśmy z klasą. W klasie wielokulturowej, gdzie szkolono nas języka islandzkiego, słownictwa, ortografii i odmian co może być trudne. Kiedy już nauczyliśmy się z islandzkiego, poszliśmy na lekcje z klasą. Byli tam świetni nauczyciele, kobiety, które bardzo nam pomogły i za to jestem bardzo wdzięczny ".
W szkole podstawowej w Vestmannaeyjar jest jeden program, w którym dzieci obcokrajowców i dzieci z trudnościami w czytaniu mogą ubiegać się o pomoc. Klaudia uważa, że dzieci obcokrajowców powinny mieć inny rodzaj pomocy. "Nie mówię, że w szkole jest to złe, ale zawsze może być lepiej. I tak najważniejsze jest, aby dzieci z zagranicy najpierw dobrze sobie radziły z językiem islandzkim".

Do Vestmannaeyjar
Klaudia ukończyła szkołę podstawową w Þorlákshöfn. Była jeden semestr w FSU w Selfoss, gdzie napotkała ścianę. "Wtedy podjąłem decyzję o przerwie w szkole, ale potem nie było żadnej pracy w Þorlákshöfn, przyjechałam tutaj w 2013 roku, zaczęłam pracować w Krónanie, później w Godthaab, który dziś jest Leo Seafood.w myciu maszyn i urządzeń, a także pracuję jako przedstawiciel wielokulturowy od dzisiaj. Lubię wyspę, tutaj jest tak pięknie i próbuję przyciągnąć tu krewnych i przyjaciół, aby zobaczyć tę piękną wyspę, jest tu również dużo ofert pracy, puki co zostaje tutaj“ - mówi Klaudia.

Projekty
Klaudia widzi dużo pracy na nowym stanowisku, ponieważ mieszka tu około 400 osób, i jest to od dziewięciu do dziesięciu procent obcokrajowców mieszkających na wyspie. Spośród nich połowa to Polacy. Ma ona doświadczenie w pomaganiu innym, "Kiedy ludzie słyszeli, że mówię po islandzku, prosili mnie, bym przetłumaczyła im cos, pomogła w komunikacji z lekarzami i asystowała w szkole podstawowej, jest dużo pracy, ale fajnie jest móc pomagać ludziom.
Jest tu zbyt wielu Polaków, którzy nie mówią po islandzku i jest to bardzo trudne. Może być z kilku powodów. Jest nas tu wielu i trzymamy się z boku. Niektórzy przyjeżdżają tu na krótszy czas, aby zdobyć pieniądze. Pracują dużo, do dwunastu godzin dziennie, tęsknią za rodziną, w takiej sytuacji nie próbujesz nauczyć się nowego języka. Inni przyjeżdżają tutaj, aby się ustatkować i spróbować czegoś nowego/lepszego i mają większy kontakt ze społecznością, a to jest to nad czy właśnie chce pracować. "

Różnorodna grupa
Oprócz Polaków jest tu także wielu o Portugalczyków í Rumunów. W przedszkolach są dzieci z zagranicy, uczniów zagranicznych jest około 40 w szkole podstawowej, ale nie więcej niż cztery do pięciu w szkole średniej. "Wiele osób zaprzestaje nauki po szkole podstawowej, jest wiele powodów i różnic miedzy szkoła średnia a szkoła podstawowa, w szkole podstawowej masz dużo pomocy, w szkole średniej dostajesz pomoc jedynie, jeżeli masz dysleksje. Ja ukończyłam szkole średnia w grudniu, ale pomogło mi to, w jak młodym wieku przyjechałam na Islandię, oraz ogromna pomoc od nauczycieli."- powiedziała Klaudia, która chce to zmienić.

Mówi, że ludzie wokół niej są bardzo pozytywnie nastawieni do tej pracy. "Większość obcokrajowców, którzy tu mieszkają, są szczęśliwi, chociaż zawsze można coś znaleźć, mam nadzieję, że moja praca jako przedstawiciela wielokulturowości będzie dla społeczeństwa tym, czego oczekują zagraniczni mieszkańcy na Vestmannaeyjar i jestem bardzo podekscytowany tym faktem. Moje biuro mieści się w Domu kultury (Biblioteka) i zachęcam wszystkich do przyjścia lub kontaktu, jeżeli mogę w czymś pomoc." powiedziała na końcu Klaudia, przedstawiciel wielokulturowości w Vestmannaeyjar.
